Fifty shades of fall color

Hello all. This is Trendy Wendy, your fabulous design diva! I hope everyone has recovered from all that record heat we had this summer? Now that I have cooled down and do not have that extra suction between my legs anymore, I can enjoy the shift in seasons. I love this time of year when the leaves are changing, the wind is blowing and Starbucks has brought back the pumpkin spice latte! I want to introduce the fall 2012 color trend, which will be “bold and seductive colors;” and what girl doesn’t like a little seduction in her life?

With the new season approaching I wanted to change my home like I changed out my closets. What an easier way than a fresh new coat of paint? So off I go to my favorite neighborhood Ace Hardware, where they have the best selection of paints and an abundance of supplies; and don’t get me started on their fabulous accents! This is not at all like my grandfather’s hardware store back in Tackysburgh, Texas. There, the closest thing to home improvement was a roll of duct tape and a John Deer manual! But I digress.

While you will probably want to use the 2012 color of the year sparingly inside, the same rules don’t apply when decorating outdoors. Tangerine and its complementary color, bright chartreuse, would be great in your outdoor space. They can hold their own against the colors of Mother Nature and your garden! For a third bright outdoor accent color, add denim blue.

Don’t forget that often nature’s own accessories make for eye-catching accessories within your home. A big bright bowl or clear glass cylinder filled with actual tangerines or limes mimic the colors around your space.

If those colors are too strong, you can step back to softer fall color trends, like honey and lavender. That way, you’ll keep all of the glow without so much of the bright.

Deep brown and warm gray are great colors for walls where you want your artwork and décor to stand out. Use lighter crisper colors together in areas where you want a very modern, clean backdrop; all of your other colors will truly pop.

The easiest way to make a quick and easy transition this fall is with a fabulous new coat. Oh yea, and paint on your walls helps too! Don’t be afraid of testing out your favorite colors of the season before making that investment. You can order small samples of the colors you like or even color match that wonderful new eye-popping color from the fall/winter Paris fashion show! Whatever your inspiration for transitioning your home into the fall season, remember there are always more than “Fifty shades to any color.”

I hope to see everyone at my new venue on the first and third Wednesday nights at Club 1220, 8-10 p.m. Come join me and the girls for fabulous food, great drink specials and over the top performances. Till then, remember, “The bigger the heels, the lower the morals!”

A special thank-you and a big hair shout-out for winning the “Coolest Ace Hardware of 2012” to Ace Hardware (1007 University Ave. in San Diego.)
