CNN’s Carol Costello cut short her interview with American Family Association spokesperson Bryan Fischer, after he repeatedly used anti-gay language on air.
During a discussion about the anti-bullying initiative Mix It Up Day, Fischer attacked the idea and said, “It is a thinly-veiled attempt to push the normalization of homosexual behavior in public schools and to eventually punish students who express a Judeo-Christian view of sexuality.”
Costello read out a 2010 quote in which Fischer alleged that Hitler recruited gay men as Nazi Stormtroopers to carry out “savage” acts. The statement said, “Hitler discovered that he could not get straight soldiers to be savage, and brutal and vicious enough to carry out his orders, but that homosexual soldiers had no limit to the savagery and brutality they were willing to inflict on whoever Hitler would send them after.”
When Fischer started to elaborate on his comments Costello referred to them as “hate speech.” Fischer then responded saying homosexuality has “known health risks,” by which point the CNN had had enough.
“I’m going to end this interview right here, because that’s just not true. I’m sorry, that’s just not true. Mr. Fischer, thanks for sharing your views, I guess,” said Costello.
The interview had lasted barely five minutes.
