Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) will present its sixth annual family health and fitness fair ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving! Sept. 22. The event promotes Hispanic family physical activity and good nutrition for better health and wellness for people of all ages and all sizes. The free event is open to the public, and will be held at Chicano Park in the community of Barrio Logan, between National Avenue and Logan Avenue, in San Diego, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving! reminds us that people of all ages and sizes can have fun incorporating physical activity into their daily lives. Dance, learn a new activity, or walk with family and friends. There are hundreds of fun ways to put yourself on the path to better health,” said Fran Butler-Cohen, CEO of FHCSD.
The event will feature free health screenings and information including cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure, among others. There will also be activities for the whole family including tennis clinics provided by the U.S. Tennis Association, zumba and hula hoops for kids.
“The support we are receiving from Newman’s Own Foundation and the Health Foundation for the Americas will allow us to serve 20,000 people at community family health events this year, like the one this weekend in San Diego,” said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, president and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, the nation’s leading Hispanic health advocacy group.
