SD Hoops LGBT Basketball League has announced the following schedule of events as it prepares for the upcoming season and community engagement:
Three-on-three tournament
The league’s three-on-three tournament signup deadline has been bumped to Wednesday, September 26. Team fees must be paid by this date to be eligible. The one-day tournament is Saturday, Oct. 6 at Golden Hills Recreation Center.
Final summer open gym
Wednesday, Sept. 19 6-8 p.m. is the final open gym of the summer. “Thank you to everyone for their support all summer long,” said SD Hoops commissioner, Jeff Praught. “Attendance has been great. Special thanks to those of you who volunteered your time to help run it.”
Coaches reviews
Coaches reviews are will occur three separate Wednesdays (Sept. 26, Oct. 3, and Oct. 10) and are free of charge. All three nights will also serve as open gyms; all are welcome to play. To be eligible to be drafted for the regular season, players need to attend one of these three sessions. “Players who are being seen by coaches for the first time will be given priority playing time,” the commissioner said. “But there should be plenty of time for everyone to get a few games in. And remember, it’s free!”
AIDS Walk/Run
“Junior” (realsport@msn.com) is in charge of SD Hoops’ representation at AIDS Walk/Run. He’s accepting volunteers to help on Sunday, Sept. 30 5-10 a..m. SD Hoops’ AIDS Walk volunteers will receive one of the league’s new t-shirts, featuring the SD Hoops’ new logo. The new-logo t-shirts will also be available for purchase soon, according to the organization.
Draft date
Saturday, Oct. 13 has been chosen as the date for the next draft. The time and location is expected to be announced soon. To become eligible to be drafted, prospective players must register and pay an $80 player fee, For more information, visit sdhoops.net . Alternatively, new and returning players can bring cash or a check to an open gym and by speaking to a board member at the open gym event. SD Hoops’ basketball league’s season starts Wednesday, Oct. 17.
