Being Alive HIV/AIDS Services announces acceptance in the Chase Community Giving Fund, which allows the public to vote one which charities will be helped most by the fund. Supporters of Being Alive are given the opportunity to go online and vote and thereby help increase the organization’s ability to meet the needs of its clients.
“The deadline is Sept 19 so please take a moment to vote,” said Shannon Wagner, Executive Director. Supporters can go online to facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving and look for the vote button and then enter the search term “Being Alive.” It takes about 30 seconds to vote and if you make a donation to the giving fund you can receive an extra vote.
“This comes at a time of importance to Being Alive so we could continue to serve thousands of low income HIV+ San Diegans,” said Wagner. The Chase Community Fund would help Being Alive continue the Peer Advocate program, Holistic AIDS Responsive Therapy, the food bank and much more.
Being Alive San Diego’s mission is to deliver quality and compassionate services to people affected by HIV/AIDS and to provide education to those in need. Being Alive was formed by 6 HIV + individuals in 1989 to address the need for “peer driven” support and services. Today Being Alive is the longest running AIDS service organization in San Diego, serving more that 10,000 individuals every year.
San Diegans have always generously supported service organizations such as Being Alive. It’s important to note today as thousands stepped off in the AIDS Walk, that BEING ALIVE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY AIDS WALK FUNDS LAST YEAR. Nor did it receive a cent from another major AIDS fundraiser, Dining Out for Life. In times of budget constraints it is important to assure donor dollars are going where they are most needed.
