‘Modern Family’ creator challenges Ann Romney over gay marriage

Steve Levitan, the creator of the hit ABC comedy Modern Family has thrown down a challenge to Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, after she revealed to ET’s Nancy O’Dell that the show was her favorite.

Levitan Tweeted, “Thrilled Ann Romney says ModFam is her favorite show. We’ll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam’s wedding. As soon as it’s legal.”

One of the most nominated shows at this year’s Emmys, Modern Family features gay couple Mitch and Cam, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, who have received positive reviews for their portrayal of the characters.

Levitan’s Tweet came just hours before Ann addressed the Republican National Convention and is clearly at odds with her husband’s and the Republican Party’s views on same-sex marriage. Romney himself has also previously admitted that he liked watching Modern Family with his wife.

According to ET Jesse Tyler Ferguson also commented on the Romneys’ enthusiasm for the show, Tweeting, “I have to say, I’m actually thrilled Mitt & Ann Romney love Modern Family. I hope it sparks something in them!”
