Organizers expect strong participation in DeMaio protest during parade

Organizers of the event “Turn Your Back on Demaio!” are asking lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and community allies to rally against mayoral hopeful Carl DeMaio at this weekend’s San Diego Pride Parade. DeMaio has faced heat from LGBTs and allies for accepting anti-gay campaign aid and making anti-gay promises to financial supporters. DeMaio has accepted numerous contributions from ‘Yes on 8’ donors and other anti-gay special interests — and LGBTs have taken note.

“We want to send a message to DeMaio that the LGBT Community of San Diego will not support any candidate that accepts funding from hateful, anti-gay sources, regardless of their sexual orientation.” said Jase Watson, event organizer for “Turn Your Back on DeMaio!”

LGBTs have strongly rebuked DeMaio for making promises to anti-gay individuals such as Charles Limandri, former council for anti-gay organization ‘National Organization for Marriage’, who stated in an email that “Carl DeMaio specifically promised me, as a condition of my support, that he would not push the gay agenda issues…”

More information on the rally can be found on the official “Turn Your Back on DeMaio!” Facebook page.

  1. And I am sure the http://www.SDGLN.com is giving this demonstration “fair and balanced” coverage ?

Headlines and discussion, quotes from both sides ? And of course coverage and photos of the actual event ?

    Or maybe not…….

  2. I created this event to be respectful. Last year people boo’d Carl and I have heard of people wanting to do much more this year.

So instead of being loud, aggressive and annoying other parade attendees, I thought a silent protest would be in better taste. This in no way will disrupt the parade or your own personal space. You get respect when give respect and that’s just what we plan to do. Thank you for your support.
