Hello all. I would like to give a little “Trendy wave” to the fierce Ms. Counterfeit Jones. Ladies, she knows how to throw a party. But I digress. This month I thought I would let my readers take a little glimpse into my “boudoir;” the perfect blend of high fashion couture and interior design, if I do say so myself.
I have always felt, that my boudoir should be a soothing retreat from the outside world; where I can either read my latest romance novel, (can I just say, that I am loving Fifty Shades of Grey! Oh, that Christian Grey can tie me down anytime), or get ready for a night on the town with the girls. The color palate I have chosen for my bedroom are colors that I know I look good in any time of the day. I always tell my girlfriends, when choosing colors for your bedroom, open your closet and there is your color palate; I know I would never wear something that clashed with my skin tone or made my butt too big; so then why would I choose colors for my bedroom that would not make me look my best, especially when my man comes by for a little “afternoon delight.” Wink, wink.
When I designed my boudoir, I referred to what I know best – me. I started with the walls as if they were my face; I needed to cover them with a foundation that would blend easily and contour the right areas. I chose a pale lavender grass cloth wallpaper that changes shades as the sun transcends across the room; creating at least one of the many different moods I might be feeling during the day. So once the foundation is set, I start with the “eyes” of the room, the windows. The treatments for the windows need to be dramatic enough to make you notice them, but not too much that you want to melt your eyelashes off. The drapery is an orchid silk taffeta embroidered in white, adding just the right amount of contrast. The beaded turquoise lamps add a pop of color, like the parade of cherry-stained smackers we always spot on the redcarpet. Now for the ensemble, I turn to the king of ready-to-wear, Ralph Lauren, for inspiration. The headboard is covered in soft linen and embellished with silver nail heads. The bedding is a mélange of different patterns and colors that one would see on the runway in Malian; the rug adorns the floor like a classic pair of Chanel slingbacks. The remaining pieces throughout the room are like my statement jewelry, rich and classic with a hint of whimsy. Then finishing touches; what girl wouldn’t be complete without some bling.
I must say, that this is completely different from my childhood bedroom back in the trailer park in Tackysburgh, Texas. Oh my, what a mess that was. Looking back on it, my bedroom looked like the face of Mimi from the Drew Carey Show. I once believed the more color I had in the room, the classier I looked. Can I just say, that the colors I used were only the four primary colors; all at the same time. Just thinking of it makes my freshly waxed eyebrows curl. Who says you can’t take the “trailer out of the girl?” I am living proof that relocation can bring beauty. I hope you all enjoyed a glimpse into this self-proclaimed diva of design’s boudoir.
