‘Glee’ star bullied ‘every day’ at school for being gay

Chris Colfer

Chris Colfer, who plays gay countertenor Kurt Hummel in Glee, has admitted that he was bullied at school ‘every day’ for being gay.

Speaking to fashion Web site, Mr. Porter Colfer said, “I was harassed at school every day, called ‘faggot,’ I had things taped to my back.”

Colfer revealed that when he went home he didn’t want to burden his parents as they had their hands full caring for his younger sister who suffers from a harsh form of epilepsy, with sometimes 50 seizures in an hour.

Colfer said he turned to writing and television as a form of escapism, “For most of my adolescence I was in my bedroom writing or watching things I shouldn’t be watching on TV, such as Nip/Tuck. And I was obsessed with superheroes. I had this thing where I wanted to be rescued. The other kids wanted to be Superman, but I thought Lois Lane kind of had the best deal.”
