The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) have announced that retired Staff Sgt. Eric Alva will be a special guest at the first HRC San Diego dinner.
Alva was the first Marine seriously injured in the Iraq War. He lost his right leg from a land mine, March 21, 2003.
After 13 years of military service, Alva retired as a staff sergeant and went back to college to finish his degree. While at school he came out as gay. He began working as a spokesman for the HRC in 2006.
