San Diego Obama Pride launched

LGBT young leaders from across San Diego launched Obama Pride in San Diego with a kick off press conference to discuss the 2012 election and LGBT youth issues in San Diego.

Craig Roberts, vice president of Political Action with the San Diego Democrats for Equality, Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, president of San Diego Blue Dog Democrats and San Diego County Veteran Advisory Council Member, Georgette Gomez, associate director of Environmental Health Coalition and Allan Acevedo, finance director with California Young Democrats LGBT Caucus gathered at the Joyce Beers Community Center in San Diego, May 24, to launch the president’s initiative.

Obama Pride includes grassroots LGBT volunteers organizing neighborhood by neighborhood and block by block, talking to their friends, family and coworkers. In California, this is the third Obama Pride Launch following the Los Angeles and Oakland events.

The president’s campaign has a long history of working with the LGBT community to move America forward. The president believes that America prospers when we’re all in it together; when hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded; when everyone, from Main Street to Wall Street, does their fair share and plays by the same rules.

From repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, to signing the Hate Crime Prevention Act into law, to prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity in the federal government, LGBT Americans have seen more progress under the Obama administration than ever before.
