It’s all about words this week – spoken and read.
I have praised San Diego’s tight little literary community several times in the past. If you enjoy writing or listening to writers perform their work then there is always something going on. This week for example you can enjoy a couple of events.
First up is Vermin on the Mount, a San Diego spin off of what is described as “an irreverent reading series”. Originally organized in L.A.’s Chinatown by local writer (and recent Reader’s Digest short form winner) Jim Ruland, Vermin has happened here in San Diego a few times now. Then, don’t miss local gay veteran Allen Clark reading his riveting story about his experience in Vietnam at Space4Art Sunday, May 6 at 7 p.m. I have heard the story before and it is well worth your time, especially if you have military experience. Clark is participating in How To Tell A True War Story: Veteran Writers Take the Stage, an event sponsored by Grossmont College. The showcase of veteran writers will perform in concert with a visit from author Tim O’Brien. The eight local voices aim to describe the unseen and unpredictable side of war.
