HBO’s latest dramedy is about three twentysomething women navigating love, sex and adulthood in New York City. If it was only about clothes and hair and putting men into categories like “rugged” or “wears a suit,” then it would be Sex and the City for a new generation, as some clueless TV critic wrote this week. But it’s not: Girls is about sex, but it is naturalistic and not always cheerful and not always about how sex is a weapon used for conquest. The rapturous reviews may lead to a backlash, but before that happens, DVR and enjoy.
