Senior Community Centers will host the only San Diego Mayoral Candidate Forum focused on aging policy issues in the City of San Diego. The forum is Thursday, May 3, from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Senior Community Centers’ Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center located at 1525 Fourth Ave. in downtown San Diego. The following San Diego mayoral candidates have confirmed their participation: Bonnie Dumanis, Bob Filner and Nathan Fletcher. Carl DeMaio has been invited to participate.

“This forum is more crucial than ever,” says Paul Downey, president and CEO, Senior Community Centers. “Mayoral candidates at our forum will address the crucial issues affecting seniors regarding transportation, housing, nutrition, healthcare and more. Most importantly, attendees will be able to hear where their future leader’s support lies and the plans they are putting forth to shape legislation that affects seniors.”

It is predicted that by 2017, there will be more adults age 65 or over, than children under the age of five (U.S. Census Bureau).

By 2030, one in four Americans will be age 65 or older, and the number of seniors in San Diego County is forecasted to double to 700,000 (San Diego Association of Governments).

The May 3 forum is hosted by Senior Community Centers in conjunction with its advocacy initiative Seniors First San Diego, a coalition of organizations, seniors and people who care about seniors. The forum will be moderated by George Chamberlin. Register at servingseniors.org/mayoral-forum. For event questions contact Christina Griffith at 619-487-0743.
