BIOCOM, the association for the Southern California life science community, has announced its endorsement of Nathan Fletcher for Mayor of the City of San Diego.
“Nathan’s record of accomplishment and bold vision for the future of the City of San Diego made him an overwhelming choice,” said Joe Panetta, president and CEO of BIOCOM. “A committee of BIOCOM board members interviewed all four major candidates, and Mr. Fletcher’s passion and energy gave us confidence he will be successful as mayor.”
Prior to his first election to the state Assembly in 2008, Fletcher met with BIOCOM to discuss its legislative priorities. High on that list was the enactment of a single sales factor corporate tax apportionment in California, a formula which rewards companies who invest in California by building facilities and employing Californians. BIOCOM and other California stakeholders had tried fruitlessly for many years to enact such a formula. Within three months of being sworn into office, Assemblyman Fletcher was instrumental in getting single sales factor enacted into law.
Fletcher has continued to work with BIOCOM and the life science industry on such issues.
“Nathan’s well-established history of putting results and the needs of his constituents before party politics was a critical consideration in this endorsement decision,” continued Panetta. “BIOCOM is proud to endorse Nathan Fletcher for Mayor, and to stand with him in his campaign.”
BIOCOM is one of the largest regional life science associations in the world, representing more than 560 member companies in Southern California.
