Following the San Diego City Council vote in favor of privatizing promotion and marketing of the San Diego Convention Center and raising taxes to fund its expansion, Democratic mayoral candidate Bob Filner issued a statement criticizing the vote.
Calling the raising of taxes without a public vote, “simply wrong,” he added, “The public is tired of these kinds of insider deals, special favors and politics as usual. For too long City Hall has catered to the powerful and privileged at the expense of the middle class … I am opposed to this scheme and am shocked that all of my Republican opponents support increasing taxes by over $1 billion to benefit powerful out of town corporations.”
