Russia: ‘Don’t go there. We will not be silenced’

LGBT activists and allies worldwide released a video Thursday following Wednesday’s passage of a discriminatory Russian law that would impose fines and criminalization for reading, writing, speaking, or reporting on anything related to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community.

The video, released by AllOut.org, features a script written on plain paper over a famous symphonic tune by Pytor Tchaikovsky, a gay Russian musical composer.  A woman with a taped mouth urges the governor to scrap the pending legislation which would silence and “delete” the gay community from Russian land, thereby causing a potential tourism fall-out in St. Petersburg.

Nearly 30,000 allies and activists protested the passage of the ‘gay gag bill’ at Russian embassies worldwide including hubs like Buenos Aires, New York, Milan, Rio de Janeiro, and Paris.

The anti-gay law, if passed, could impose up to $16,700 for individuals convicted of promotion of homosexuality.
