New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez will have to rely on recommendations of friends and family after her hairdresser has called it quits following the governor’s opposition to same-sex marriage.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 reports that Antonio Darden, the governor’s hair stylist, is refusing to see her, explaining that his protest comes in wake of the governor’s comments that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

“The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in,” Darden said. “Because of her stances and her views on this I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I’d changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no again.”

Darden saw Gov. Martinez three times before refusing to book her next appointment. The gay hairdresser explains he will wait until she approves same-sex marriage in the state before booking the governor’s next hair appointment.

“I think it’s just equality, dignity for everyone,” he said. “I think everybody should be allowed the right to be together. My partner and I have been together for 15 years.”

During her gubernatorial campaign, Gov. Martinez said that a gay marriage bill would be unnecessary in the state of New Mexico, adding she would not sign the bill if it made it to her desk.
