A Christian pastor is calling for a national boycott of Starbucks Coffee in wake of the company’s support of same-sex marriage in the state of Washington.
Pastor Steven Andrew of USA Christian Ministries called for all Christian Americans to stop their support of the giant coffee chain in an online blog published a day before the state’s Senate passed a bill which, if signed into law, would legally recognize same-sex marriages in Washington.
Andrew warned Starbucks that if Christians sought their coffees elsewhere, the company could lose 80 percent of its customers – a statistic the pastor bases on an assumption that 80 percent of Americans are Christians who refute same-sex marriage.
Starbucks is among more than 100 other companies who have supported gay marriage rights in Washington.
The post titled, “Christians boycott Starbucks because Romans 1 explains Starbucks hates God” urges Christian Americans to drop Starbucks since the company has “[turned] against God” further explaining, “We are glad to know that Starbucks doesn’t pretend to be for Christians.”
Andrew added: “This boycott is important because God blesses those who obey Him and judges those who don’t obey Him (2 Chronicles 19:2).”
The blog post carries on to describe homosexuality as a sin, chalking up health concerns over HIV, depression, and a higher death statistic.
According to Seattle’s KING 5, 12 percent of Americans said they would not support a company that valued same-sex marriage while 51 percent said they were more likely to buy a product from a company that supported same-sex marriage. Thirty-three percent said it made no difference in how they purchased their products and services.
