The nomination list was red-hot with 2011’s favorite LGBT-friendly stars and programs at this year’s 23rd Annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards. Nominees included Modern Family, Glee, and mega-celebs Lady Gaga, Chaz Bono, Ricky Martin and more.
The GLAAD Media Awards aim to recognize media for their contributions and accurate portrayal of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities.
Notable films nominated and honored by the GLAAD Media Awards this year include “Beginners” and “Albert Nobbs”. TV shows lighting up the nominations include Showtime’s “Shameless,” ABC’s “Modern Family,” and Fox’s “Glee”.
Other influential members of the media who were nominated by GLAAD include New York Times columnists Frank Bruni and Maureen Dowd. Television programs “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer,” “Conan O’Brien,” “David Letterman,” “Anderson Cooper 360” also received a nod for various contributions to the LGBT community in 2011.
“As media continue to tell new stories about LGBT people and families, a majority of Americans now support full equality of LGBT Americans,” Mike Thompson, GLAAD’s acting president, said in a statement. “This year’s nominees enlighten and entertain, while spotlighting the diversity of our community.”
