Fresh from a National Championship won in October, the San Diego American Flag Football League (SDAFFL) kicks off its eighth season with the promise of an even bigger and better season and another run for the national title. Preseason activities start Saturday, Jan. 21, with the rookie clinic. The rookie clinic is a chance for players who have no prior knowledge of the game of football or who have never played, to work with league veterans and be brought up to speed before attending the regular clinics, followed by the return of the ever popular and wildly raucous pub crawl.
Player clinics will be held Feb. 4 and 11, and the draft Feb.12. These clinics are a chance for team captains to evaluate your abilities as you participate in the skill stations so they can develop their player draft order. This is not a tryout, as everyone who signs a waiver and pays their league fee will be drafted to a team. But, to be eligible for the draft you must attend one of the clinics. The official first game of the season starts Saturday, March 10.
“Because of our success last season, the bar has been set very high for this season,” said Mike Paganelli, SDAFFL commissioner. “But with so many of the players and the leadership returning from last season, I’m confident it’ll be bigger and more successful than ever! We’re incredibly excited and can’t wait!”
In addition to a national championship, SDAFFL founder and current director of long term planning, Ivan Solis was also inducted into the first ever National Gay Flag Football (NGFFL) Hall of Fame. “It’s a huge honor to represent San Diego this way and I’m proud of the growth and success we’ve had over the years!”
