The Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) will auction the 1984 Hillcrest Sign to the highest bidder in an online event that will have a $3,000 minimum bid. The organization’s board decided unanimously to have the auction with two stipulations, the first being that “once ownership is procured the sign must be displayed in Hillcrest,” and that “new ownership must provide transportation from the sign’s current location to its new location.”

In September, 2011, HBA issued a public request for proposal on ownership of the 1984 Hillcrest Sign and received three proposals over the last few months. Due to increased interest in sign procurement and public involvement the HBA has decided that the most equitable way to move forward is to hold an online auction on its Web site. The online auction will occur early in 2012.

“We want to ensure that there is a fair and responsible process for transference of the 1984 Hillcrest Sign and our board of directors has voted that this is best way to move forward,” said HBA Executive Director Benjamin Nicholls.
