The San Diego Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Community Center announced that it has received a $5,000 grant from the Union Bank Foundation to support The Center’s Sunburst Youth Housing Project.
“For almost a decade, Union Bank and the Union Bank Foundation have been steadfast supporters of The Center and Sunburst Youth Housing Project (YHP),” said Christopher Mills, The Center’s major gifts officer. “This year, in addition to this generous $5,000 grant for YHP, Union Bank also sponsored two events benefitting The Center – the Young Professionals Council’s Center Stage and MARYAH’s Harvest Howl. We are extremely grateful for the Union Bank Foundation’s dedicated commitment to homeless LGBT youth and we look forward to our continued collaboration in 2012.”
The Sunburst Youth Housing Project provides “safe and supportive” housing for San Diego’s homeless youth, including LGBT and HIV-positive youth. The 23-unit facility is located in downtown San Diego, close to San Diego City College, public transportation, community health facilities and other essential resources. The facility is wheelchair accessible and contains two units that have been retrofitted to accommodate persons in wheelchairs. A major goal of YHP is to ensure that youth have easy access to needed services that will support them in maintaining stable housing.
Established in 1953, the Union Bank Foundation has been the conduit for the charitable donations of the bank that is its namesake into low and moderate incomes, according to the organization.
