San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria has been selected by his colleagues to chair the Budget and Finance Committee in 2012. He has served as chair in 2011 and previously led the Land Use and Housing Committee in 2009 and 2010.
“I am honored by the confidence my colleagues have in my ability to lead the Budget and Finance Committee for a second year,” said Councilmember Gloria. “Delivering a balanced budget that addresses the greatest needs of San Diegans while planning for a fiscally strong future will benefit our city.”
Under Councilmember Gloria’s leadership of the committee, the City Council took a more proactive role in the development of the City’s annual budget, and a balanced budget that restored the fire engine brownouts was passed on time in 2011.
His council colleagues also reaffirmed Councilmember Gloria as chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Redevelopment. Though the state Legislature ended redevelopment this year, the California Supreme Court is currently considering the legality of that move. The continuation of the Ad Hoc Committee will allow the City to be well positioned should the court reinstate redevelopment.
Along with appointments to City Council committees, the City Council today also approved appointments to outside organizations and agencies. Councilmember Gloria will now have a greater role in both the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and the Metropolitan Transit System.
In 2012, Councilmember Gloria will serve on:
City Council Committee on Budget and Finance (chair)
Ad Hoc Committee on the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Diego (chair)
City Council Committee on Rules, Open Government, and Intergovernmental Relations
City Council Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhood Services
City Council Committee on Land Use and Housing
Metropolitan Transit System Board
Metropolitan Transit System Executive Committee (alternate)
SANDAG Board (1st alternate)
SANDAG Transportation Committee
SANDAG Public Safety Committee (alternate)
