The City Council voted 8-0 Dec. 6 to appoint Jeff Gattas to the Centre City Development Corporation board of directors for a term that will last to May 1, 2014.
Gattas, a member of the board for The LGBT Community Center, was nominated by Mayor Jerry Sanders for whom he worked for several years as the liaison between the City Council and the mayor’s office. He is currently the director of media relations for UCSD.
Gattas and his partner live in North Park. He replaces Robert McNeely who is termed out of office. Gattas satisfies the finance category that the CCDC requires in its bylaws that at least two directors have experience in that area, according to the mayor’s office.
The CCDC is a public, nonprofit corporation that was established in 1975 to plan the redevelopment area of downtown San Diego. The CCDC board gives recommendations on project areas priority and promotion of redevelopment projects.
Councilmember Kevin Faulconer said Gattas understood the city and was a good choice for CCDC. Gattas worked as chief of staff to former Councilmember Toni Atkins including when she was the acting mayor after Dick Murphy resigned in 2005. He has more than 15 years experience in communications, government and public affairs.
