NEW DELHI – Two Indian cities recently celebrated Gay Pride parades with organizers of both events proudly proclaiming it was a chance to “rejoice that we are here and will always be here.”
The 4th annual Bangalore Pride march was held in Bangalore city Sunday, Nov. 27. The march was held from Thulasi Park to City Town Hall and according to reports the event was well supported by the LGBT community with more than 800 people participating in the march.
The Times of India reported that the other Pride festival was held on the same day in New Delhi, with attendance estimated at more than 3,500 people. The Times also reported that this time around the parade was attended by, “grandparents and family members of the LGBT community, who had come out to support and celebrate the cause that their loved ones stood for. The parade also sent out a message against the discrimination faced by the LGBT community, urging all to respect their right to live with freedom and respect.”
One of the participants at the event, said, “It is remarkable to see so many people who have come out on the streets to support the queer group. Times have changed. It is great to see children, family members and senior citizens come forward to be a part of this event.”
India’s next Pride event is scheduled to be held in Mumbai Jan. 29, 2012.
