Diane Marie Cavanaugh

obituary

Retired school teacher and health care worker Diane Marie Cavanaugh of San Diego was born in Oklahoma City. She was the daughter of Albert and Dena Peschl, and had one brother, Jimmie Peschl.

Cavanaugh graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Shortly thereafter, she met her future husband, Charles Cavanaugh in 1953. Their first son, Chris, was born about a year later; their second son, Frank, was born in 1958. The couple divorced in 1978.

Later, Cavanaugh became involved in improving lives in San Diego’s LGBT community – usually by tireless volunteering; always by being a warm, comforting light in the room.

In retirement, some of Cavanaugh’s favorite pastimes were playing music and giving dance lessons to her friends. She occasionally received payment for her disc jockey work for women’s groups. But primarily she did it for fun. Her handle was “Diane’s Danceables”.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pets Are Wonderful Support (P.A.W.S.), a non-profit group that helps low-income, elderly, ill and disabled residents keep their pets.

Go to pawssdc.org and look for “Donate in Memory of Diane Cavanaugh” on the lower left side of the PAWS homepage.
