One more date-night starter

Tempting treats from the Chocolat menu

Halloween’s history, and my abiding memory of this one was watching a Smurf being arrested on Fourth and University. How tragic was that?

But now it’s November. While your friends are still scraping off the face paint, this month’s off to a better start for you. You’ve got a date! Lucky for you, we’ve got another suggestion about where you might take your date and get even luckier (get your head out of the gutter) by having a good meal in a pleasing environment at a reasonable price.

A fun way to start date night is at Chocolat on University and Fifth. Photo journalist, Vanessa Dubois, and I were treated to the new gelato drinks added to the menu. I very much enjoyed the Pistachio Oh My Gawd made with pistachio gelato rum and prosecco. That was followed by the Pomegranate Margarita, made with lemon gelato, tequila and Pom juice; it was sweeter than I thought it would be, with a slight citrus bite at the end. Both Vanessa and I enjoyed the Mango Daiquiri. All drinks are $9.

Chocolat has an interesting happy hour approach. Instead of reducing the price of drinks, they provide a varied selection of gourmet snacks for free. These change daily, and include bruschetta, pastry stuffed with mushrooms, cheese and more.

They do have a dinner menu with daily specials. Try the Chocolat Ravioli; it sounds odd but it’s very good and is made with truffle oil, coco, cognac, ricotta and mashed potato. Very well priced at $16.

Chocolat is also well known for their crepes. Try the Homemade Jam and Mascarpone for $9.95. Oh, by the way, it is not jam but orange marmalade.

Bon appetite!
