A lesbian couple in Parker, Colorado are victims of a hate crime after the women found “Kill the Gay” spray-painted on their garage door.

According to Colorado’s CW, the couple had an ongoing dispute with their homeowners association, after the H.O.A. said the couple had failed to pick up after their dog. Another neighbor told The CW the couple also had noise complaints.

The Parker Police Department are investigating the matter and have taken the harassments seriously.

“You get words like ‘homos’ or ‘you’re going to burn in hell’ and things of that nature, but ‘kill the gay?’ That’s a threat against our lives so it was overwhelming,” said Aimee Whitchurch.

The following day, the Witchurch and her partner Christel Conklin found a noose on their doorstep. “The noose is where it really became shocking and scary,” Whitchurch says.

Whitchurch adeed: “You don’t know who is targeting you… At first I thought it was kids until the noose.” Despite the threats, the couple says they are not going anywhere and staying in their neighborhood.

“We’re the white Rosa Parks,” Conklin says. “We’re not getting off the bus.”
