A new study at the Boise State University says that heterosexual women are naturally bi-curious when it comes to their relationships with other women. But the report also says the feelings are completely normal and generally increase with age.

Researchers studies 484 heterosexual women. From that group, 60 percent said they were sexually attracted to other women; 45 percent had actually kissed a woman, and 50 percent of the women had fantasies about other women that involved some kind of sexual experience.

Elizabeth Morgan, a professor at the college and cohort leader in the  study, analyzes relationships among heterosexuals and has concluded that women, due to their friendlier nature, are often more openly affectionate with others of the same-sex.

“Women are encouraged to be emotionally close to each other. That provides an opportunity for intimacy and romantic feelings to develop,” said Morgan.

In a similar study, Lisa Diamond, Ph.D., studied a group of women attracted to other women. The long-term study showed how sexuality develops over the course of a lifetime. Diamond reported the older a woman got, the more likely they were to opt for a ‘label-fee’ sexual identity.

“We have this idea that sexuality gets clearer and more defined as time goes on,” Diamond explained. “We consider that a sign of maturity to figure out who you are. I’ve seen it’s really the opposite.”

  1. It’s a very interesting study but the results, as Morgan suggests, are not completely surprising. Women are loving beings. It makes sense that after (or while) raising a family, they are open to finding love with other women.

  2. Interesting study. I’m “much older” and while quite bisexual in my younger years, I’m pretty strictly interested in intimacy only with women now. Just don’t want to put up with the sociology of heterosexuality. Plus, sex/intimacy is better (IMHO) with other women. FWIW.

  3. Well this is very obvious why so many of us straight men are still single today when we really should Not be.

  4. I have been experiencing sexual thoughts and feelings for women for over 10 years now. I’m 43 and married and I do love my husband but I want to explore this and see if means anything.
