Jamie Hubley, 15, a figure skater and beloved son, committed suicide Saturday after years of tormenting and bullying. The boy’s father, Coun. Allan Hubley, spoke to CBC News in wake of his son’s death, explaining, “Jam was the kind of boy that loved everybody. He couldn’t understand why everyone would be so cruel to him about something as simple as skating.”

Hubley added: “He just wanted someone to love him. That’s all. And what’s wrong with that? Why do people have to be cruel to our children when all they want to do is be loved?”

Jamie left a tragic suicide note on his blog which read, “I’m tired of life, really. It’s so hard, I’m sorry, I can’t take it anymore… I don’t want my parents to think this is their fault, either. I love my mom and dad. It’s just too hard. I dont want to wait three more years, this hurts too much.”

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board issued a statement to the Hubley family Tuesday:

“I couldn’t agree more about the importance of dealing with these issues. These are complex issues that we have to deal with as a community”, said Jennifer Adams, the board’s director of education.

“I lost a beautiful, beautiful child that was going to make the world a better place. I’ve been involved in a lot of things in my community…but I couldn’t fix my own boy and that’s tearing me apart,” Allan Hubley said.

  1. God dammit, more pieces of sh** bullying people to the point where they feel their only escape route is killing themselves….and NOTHING is done. Our law enforcement and school administration are such incompetent idiots.

  2. This is yet another truly tragic story. Gay teen suicides are far too common and are a very important public health concern. It sounds like Jamie had some wonderful, supportive parents, but this is not true of all gay or lesbian youth. There is a 35-minute free documentary that anyone can watch online called Lead with Love (http://leadwithlovefilm.com) that was created for parents of youth who have recently come out. The importance of supportive parents cannot be underestimated for any child, but particularly during a challenging time. Hopefully this film will help other parents to provide a sense of hope for their children.
