In an effort to reduce stress put on transgender students, UCLA will consider allowing transgender students or those considering gender reassignment to live with members of the person’s soon-to-be sex.
Other colleges including UC Berkeley and Stanford have already implemented a transgender housing policy. UCLA will aim to introduce the same comfortable living standards for all students including the campus’ transgender population.
Suzanne Seplow, Director of Residential Life at UCLA, says the policy may be implemented as soon as next fall.
The change will better accommodate transgender students who say that living with a member of the gender they are transitioning to can ease a difficult or stressful situation.
