Pride and Prejudice
All of the wit and romance of Jane Austen’s classic 1813 novel come to life in this refreshingly fast-paced and engaging new adaptation. Finding a husband is hardly Elizabeth Bennet’s most urgent priority. But with four sisters, an overzealous match-making mother and a string of unsuitable suitors, it’s difficult to escape the subject. When the independent-minded Elizabeth meets the handsome but enigmatic Mr. Darcy, she is determined not to let her feelings triumph over her own good sense – but the truth turns out to be slipperier than it seems.

The Ocean Beach Oktoberfest
The uniquely Southern California salute to the celebration of German culture and fun is back this year, with a second day added. This year, the party will begin Friday, Oct. 7 and extend through Saturday night, Oct. 8. Friday night’s schedule will feature the finals of Beer Garden Band Slam, a competition to crown the best cover or tribute band at the beach. The Saturday schedule is packed tight and in addition to the food and craft vendors and an all-ages stage on the grassy area at the foot of Newport Avenue, Saturday’s Oktoberfest will include performances by the Electric Waste Band, Tommy Cubs, The Heavy Guilt, the Naked Funk, Bateke Beat, Tribal Theory and the Bavarian Beer Garden Band.

The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum presents Interwoven Traditions: Chinese Minority Costume & Jewelry. The intricate embroidery and dazzling silver ornaments in this exhibition are as complex and fascinating as the peoples who created them. This exhibition includes fine embroidery from the Dong, Shui, Yi, Li, Gejia/Hakka and Thai/Dai minorities, as well as the Han majority to form an exciting panoply of extravagant adornment from the diverse peoples who have been woven together over thousands of years to form the multicultural China of today.

10th annual Celebrity Sonnets
Join the San Diego Shakespeare Society for their 10th annual Celebrity Sonnets . Come hear local celebrities, actors, musicians and dancers perform some of Shakespeare’s immortal and mysterious poems of love and passion. It’s a unique and fun evening. Performers will include Miles Anderson, the award-winning actor who starred in the Old Globe’s recent Shakespeare Festival, Steve Breen, Jonathan McMurtry, Pat Launer and more.

Art of Élan: Mexicali
The artistic quality, sensitivity, intimacy, innovation and energy that has become synonymous with Art of Élan will be kicked into high gear during its 5th anniversary season, entitled Steppin’ Out . The opening concert, Mexicali , seeks to bridge the gap between the familiar sounds of traditional Mexican folk music and the more current voices of Mexico’s classical music scene, featuring works by composers Arturo Marquez, Santiago de Murcia and Javier Alvarez.

Howard Jones
It was in 1983 that Howard Jones first burst upon the contemporary music scene bringing his very English song-writing and pioneering synthesizers to an unsuspecting world. Jones will perform in full his first two generation defining albums, Human’s Lib and Dream Into Action for the first time ever in the U.S. The shows will feature the songs recreated using modern and classic synthesizers.
