Stanger apologizes for gay slurs

Patti Stanger

Patti Stanger, presenter of TV’s Millionaire Matchmaker has tried to defend and apologize for her offensive remarks on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live (WWHL).

The Int’l. Business Times reported that Stanger sparked an initial outrage after making some discriminatory comments against gay men and Jewish men on the live show last week.

When a viewer called for Stanger’s advice on long-distance monogamy, she immediately launched into a tirade about gay men and monogamy.

“In the gay world, there’s always going to be open,” she said to the caller. “Are you gay or straight? Gay. Then you’re OK. There is no curbing the gay … I try to curb you people. I’ve decided to throw in the towel and say do what you want, but when you find the right person, you will know. You’re not going to want to go on Grindr and all those other sites.”

Bravo executive producer and WWHL host Andy Cohen – who is openly gay – was visibly shocked and said to Stanger, “I’m gay and I’m down with monogamy.” Stanger immediately laughed in his face, and demanded to know when he last had a boyfriend.

At another point in the show, Stanger declared that “Jewish men lie” – further offending her host, who is Jewish.

Later Stanger attempted to defend her comments with the Tweet, “Gay men love variety. Customary 4 them to hook up 1st, get to know the man after. Commitment’s hard when there’s so much variety.”

Finally, several hours later, Stanger Tweeted this apology, “So sorry – didn’t mean to offend anyone. Love you all. XO”
