It wouldn’t be October if Michele Bachmann didn’t get spooked at a pumpkin farm. But instead of ghouls and goblins striking fear in the presidential hopeful, it was a group of roughly 60 students from the liberal Grinnell College that got the job done after the group protested Bachmann’s appearance.

Bachmann attended a fundraiser at the pumpkin farm for groups Focus on the Family and Family Leader, both faith-based associations that aim to “preserve family rights.” After hearing about Bachmann’s appearance from various social networking sites including an internal campus email, the students showed up at the farm carrying various signage in protest of the controversially conservative presidential contender, CBS News reports.

Signs read, “Have my gaybies,” “My body, my choice,” and “Female Gay Student 99%, where’s my future?”

Bachmann was supposed to speak at the fundraiser, but after reported chatter amongst the lawmaker’s staff, the event was cancelled. Bachman walked to her standby vehicle as she waved to the students as many yelled to her.

Student Jillian Johnson said, “Grinnell is known for having peaceful, politically active, liberal-leaning students. I don’t understand what she was scared of.”

Danny Carroll, the farm owner, told CBS News, “We had some very special friends and guests who were invited specifically for this fundraiser, and we wanted out of consideration for those guests to make sure that they had the opportunity to spend some quality time with Congresswoman Bachmann.”
