San Francisco mayoral candidate Bevan Dufty has, for the first time in campaign history, released an ad campaign featuring his daughter Sidney, 5. As one of the 16 candidates running for mayor of San Francisco, Dufty is setting himself apart in the race with the commercial showing his daughter boarding a MUNI locomotive.
In the script of the ad, Dufty explains, “I ride MUNI everyday. I enjoy it most when I’m with Sidney. She doesn’t notice that it’s too crowded or that it can run a half-hour late… Sidney thinks Muni is magic… I want all of us to see it that way.”
The public’s response to the ad has been varied. Some have voiced on Twitter calling the campaign ‘exploitative,’ the Chicago Pride reports. But Dufty has defended the ads explaining, “We are very proud of the ad and it was a great present for Sidney who turned 5 yesterday.”
The candidate’s best friend, Rebecca Goldfader, a lesbian, conceived the child.
If elected into position, Dufty will become the first openly gay mayor in San Francisco.
