A gay man who slashed the face of his ex-boyfriend with a knife in Hillcrest in 2008 was sentenced Sept. 20 to 365 days in jail and ordered released immediately from jail, since he has already served that amount of time.
Amier Rocky Issa, 34, will live with a relative in Los Angeles as part of the terms of three years probation given by San Diego Superior Court Judge Joseph Brannigan, who rejected a prison sentence.
Issa agreed to take medication, complete a 52-week class for domestic violence batterers and was barred from contacting the victim or entering Baja Betty’s, Urban Mo’s and Gossip Grill on University Avenue. If he violates probation terms, he could be sent to prison.
The sentence was fine with the victim, Michael Serrato, 29, who suffered a 5 1⁄2 inch cut on his face that needed 28 stitches to close. Serrato was attacked while walking home from work on July 11, 2008, in Hillcrest. Issa had been stalking him after the couple ended an 11-month relationship.
Serrato said it was better for Issa to get mental health treatment and not prison.
