DVD of the Week: ‘Bridesmaids’

Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kristen Wiig and Ellie Kemper in Bridesmaids

I would hope that everyone has already seen the funniest movie of the year. But if by some bizarre reason you didn’t see Bridesmaids, it’s now on DVD. (Which means you can own it!) As I wrote in my original review, “Surrounding this tale of thirty-something angst are some of the most brilliant comic scenes I’ve seen on film since The Hangover. But R-rated gross-out comedy made by and for women is very different from the stuff made by and for men. The jokes – whether it’s the bridesmaids all experiencing explosive food poisoning in an expensive, all-white dress shop or Annie trying to get the cop’s attention by driving past him doing every illegal act imaginable – instead are made with affection for Annie (Kristen Wiig) and her friends, with empathy for the absurdity of the female predicament of too-perfect weddings, asinine men and the need to have it all and the impossibility of getting it.”

  1. All the characters in Bridesmaids made me laugh until my sides split, but my favorite would have to be Melissa McCarthy who played Megan. Megan was the favorite character of many of my friends. She was the one who made me laugh the most apart from Kristen Wiig. Both of them were perfect in this movie. I loved the whole movie though. Once I return it, I plan on seeing it again very soon. I am a customer and employee of DISH Network, and I know that on October 1, Blockbuster is releasing a Movie Pass that will open thousands of on-demand movies and TV shows on your TV or computer! Plus, since its Blockbuster, you can always rent Blu-rays at no additional cost! Of course, since it is available on October 1, here is where you can get notified! That way, you can see Bridesmaids for yourself!
