The issues of acceptance and love are explored in Primetime Nightline as the TV show explores the lives of three families who “struggle to do the right thing” for their transgender children. As part of the show’s theme, host Cynthia McFadden will uncover challenges families face as children transcend genders in this truly reality-based documentary.
The show dubbed My (Extra) Ordinary Family: Transgender Kids will feature a 10-year-old boy who attends school as a girl, a 15-year-old girl who is transitioning into a male role, and a 19-year-old male who will undergo six surgeries to make him resemble a female.
The show will aim to uncover the depths of family support and love – critical to children who are dependent on their parents support as they transition genders – through “social, medical, and surgical changes,” according to ABC News.
As a part of the show’s lineup, Kim Petras, the world’s youngest person to have completed sexual reassignment, will discuss the reality of changing genders, and act as a support figure for families featured in the show. Both pros and cons pertaining to the process of sexual reassignment – including a controversial interview with Charles Kane, the world’s first person to change sexes only to change again – will be discussed as part of the show’s lineup.
My (Extra) Ordinary Family: Transgender Kids will air Wednesday, August 31 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
