“I’m not real, I’m theater!”
Lady Gaga did not disappoint fans yesterday after a noteworthy performance as Joe Calderone, the pop queen’s machismo alter-ego . In the midst of cigarette smoke and adorned in a dirty white tee, the otherwise glamorous pop princess showed the world her acting chops – and it worth every bit of buzz.
Slipping in and out of the Calderone character, Lady Gaga later took center stage as she performed ‘You and I’ on her beloved piano, later accompanied by Queen’s Brian May on guitar for a spectacular performance worthy of the thrill that VMAs bring each year.
As the show dwindled to its end and Britney Spears accepted her Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, it was perhaps Gaga’s most titillating moment – lingering indecision suggested an on-stage kiss about to bloom on the cusp; but at the last moment, Britney laughed, approached the mic, and said “I already did that before,” leaving Gaga – Calderone — in a hot frenzy.
Just before exiting the stage, Calderone left the crowd with one last word on Bitney: “”She’s f-ing hot. I don’t know. You know, Gaga is my girl, but Britney is f-ing Britney Spears.”
