Jessica Anderson of Aptus Insurance, which is based out of Bellevue, Wash., and her team, have put together a financial guide to help those in the LGBT community to maximize their benefits.
Anderson was able to explain how, and why, this guide came about and just who would benefit from this guide in a recent email interview.
“We have a small team composed of 13 people,” Anderson said. “We’re an excitable, laid back bunch located in the Seattle, Wash. region – specifically Bellevue.”
The team she works with put in many hours gathering information for the guide with the hope that the people in the community would benefit from their work.
The guide came about because Anderson felt that there was nothing for the LGBT community where this kind of information was readily available all in one place.
“As a member of the LGBT community myself, I knew there was nothing comprehensive like this that the community had that compiled all the major financial information relating to LGBT’s. I knew it could help a lot of people so I ran it by our department heads here and even though we don’t expect much business benefit from it, we see it as a positive ‘karma’ endeavor and a way we can give back in a good way.”
After forty plus hours putting the guide together, Anderson credits her team, and the many sources she had in making it all happen.
The guide shines light on many different topics such as “Personal Finance Myths,” “LGBT Friendly Businesses,” and “College Scholarships,” but what stood out to Anderson the most was the “Corporate Equality Index.”
“Equality is something we fight for daily as LGBTs” Anderson said. “I think it’s important to support those businesses that support the vision, and make an effort of not supporting those that outright ignore it.”
“This guide should be able to help anyone in the LGBT community,” Anderson adds. “It’s not really a “How to” guide or anything relating to our business, but the guide should be equally helpful to all and any LGBT reader can contact me directly at jessica@aptusinsurance.com if they have any questions. I’d love to be of help!”
