Republican politician and Tea Party member Christine O’Donnell walked out of an interview with Piers Morgan on Wednesday after being asked to comment on her views regarding gay marriage. The host of CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” was reportedly puzzled by O’Donnell’s unexpected exit, and stated that his question about the Tea Party member’s stance on gay unions was “perfectly valid.”

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Morgan offered his perspective on the incident, stating, “I thought that she would just give me a kind of standard answer, particularly given that she was publishing a book …where she is talking about her views on everything.” Morgan explained that he would ask the same question to “anyone in the Tea Party right now,” adding, “…if you don’t want to talk about [big issues], you shouldn’t really be giving interviews.”

However, O’Donnell contends that Morgan was “berating” her throughout the interview, and attributes his overall attitude to her decision to leave the set, according to Entertainment Weekly. She also accused Morgan of being “very rude to her” on the show, which the CNN host asserts is absolutely false. Morgan told press, “I can be rude, but I certainly wasn’t last night.”

O’Donnell chose to address questions regarding gay marriage on Friday’s Today Show, stating that her beliefs are, “the same as Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, and Michele Bachmann…I believe in state’s rights, but I also think that the church has the First Amendment right to define marriage as it wishes.”

  1. The church doesn’t define marriage in this country, since it has no legal authority to do so. O’Donnell should at least take a course in Civics before she starts talking about who has the authority here.
