Celebrating Machu Picchu’s centennial discovery

The Museum of Photographic Arts presents a book signing and lecture by photographer Mike Torrey. As one of the most popular archeological sites in the world, Mike Torrey photographed Machu Picchu in the way he wished that he could have experienced it – without seeing its 2,000+ daily visitors. Over two trips at the summer and winter solstices, Mike captured this site’s singular mystery in stunning vistas and intimate details with hardly any visitors evident. Mike will explain his approach to photographing Machu Picchu, providing a historical context through imagery and music that captures the visceral experience of being at the Incan citadel.

The Museum of Photographic Arts, 1649 El Prado in Balboa Park, galleries open at 6 p.m., lecture begins at 7 p.m., $8 MOPA and ASMP members, $12 general,619-238-7559, mopa.org.
