Falling in love, from LA to San Diego

Hello, fellow readers. Thanks for the Nicky Awards nominations. I was honored to see my name nominated; however, as co-chair of the event, I can’t be nominated. I guess I do have fans!

Mike Ruiz, center, is being honored at the San Diego Nicky Awards, Aug. 28.

Typos happen

I would like to apologize to my friend Kim Ward – not Kim Wart – for misspelling her name. No comments from the peanut gallery! For some reason, I had a wart on my mind.

Is it all about sex?

As you can probably notice, I’ve been traveling a lot to Los Angeles for work. No, I am not shooting porn! I am part owner of an IT solutions company and store in West Hollywood. Of course, with work comes fun.

I’ve talked about Manhole, a theme night at Mother Lode on Mondays. On this trip I went to Rim Job at MJs on Tuesday. Interesting place if you haven’t been there. Same concept. Very “friendly” go-go boys and porn playing on the TVs. They had an outside area with a shower and also a hot tub! Chi Chi LaRue was spinning and she was cracking me up.

Then on Wednesday, I went to Micky’s for an event called Hot Rod. But the first Wednesday is a theme night called Otter Pop. I love the name. I guess San Diego is not the only place catching onto the bear events. Tons of dancers showing a lot.

I had a blast on both nights. Just seems like all the club nights in LA are related to sex. And surprise, surprise … it works.

Did I bake the puppy?

Here is a funny story. A friend of mine has a really hard time sleeping and that’s why he has a prescription for cannabis (marijuana). With all this “evolution” on cannabis products and choices he decided to try the gel caps with liquid THC (active compound on the plant responsible for its effect). He took one pill and nothing happened.

Or so he thought.

So he took two more. Needless to say, it all hit at once and like a train wreck! Not only was he not able to sleep but he was having weird visions and getting paranoid. It was so bad that he got afraid of his puppy. So he climbed on a chair and locked up the puppy in the kitchen cabinet.

Hours went by and he started to wonder where the puppy was. Then he thought, maybe I baked the puppy and he proceeded to look in the oven.

Finally he heard the poor thing and got him down. Of course, me being such a good friend, I was calling him and pretending I was the FBI or Animal Control.

Point is: be careful and patient when using organic natural products. Dosage and strength varies a lot on those.

I am in love

I finally went to the movies to watch Captain America. OMG! The movie was average, but Captain America made me fall in love. Me and all the gays in the theater. I love super hero movies regardless if they are bad or cheesy. I guess it’s part of my geeky side.

I also saw Harry Potter. The last two movies were OK but this one was pretty good and entertaining.

Bad Teacher was great. I think that would be me if I were a teacher! Zookeeper was funny but not great.

Next on my list is The Smurfs. I used to watch it every single day when I was a kid.

What’s happening in San Diego?

This should be a fun and busy weekend. Join me at the Center on Aug. 13 for the Multicultural Explosion, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Food, outside beer garden and much more.

Sunday, Aug. 14 is CityFest. There are all kinds of pre-parties happening at venues all over Hillcrest starting Thursday at Eden, Friday at Mo’s and Numbers.

Also on Saturday, Aug. 13, Rich’s is bringing back their popular Voltage underwear party.

South Bay Pride will take place on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Chula Vista’s Memorial Park, noon to 7 p.m. That same night, Numbers is bringing back their Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell military night, The Barracks with DJ John Joseph. Part of the door proceeds will be donated to the GLBT Veteran’s Wall of Honor Project at the Center.

And finally, the spell is over: I was finally asked on a date! Stay tuned.
