Pride parade: Marching toward equality

More than 160 social, business and political organizations representing the LGBT community take to the streets for the 37th Pride parade – with an anticipated 150,000 spectators. The parade is July 16, starting at 11 a.m. on the corner of University Avenue and Normal Street; it continues west on University to Sixth Avenue, and then south to Upas. There are eight reviewing stands along the 1.5 mile route.

Pride Guide

The San Diego Pride parade attracts more than 150,000 spectators, so show up early to claim your space to view the parade. Pride provides an area adjacent to the Normal Street reviewing stand for spectators with special needs; ASL interpretation is provided adjacent to the University Avenue reviewing stand (between Vermont and Richmond streets).

With more than 150 marching contingents, expect at least two hours to watch the entire parade from start to finish. The crowd usually follows the last contingent to the end of the parade, which is a few blocks away from the festival entrance in Balboa Park.

Parade shuttle

Park at the Old Naval Hospital parking lot (Park Boulevard and Presidents Way) and take a free shuttle to the start of the parade route. The shuttle starts at 7:15 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.

Parade awards

Pride recognizes the best parade contingents with several awards, including Best Use of Theme, Best Marching, Best Decorated Vehicle, Best Decorated Float and Best Musical. The top award receives $300.
