Flamboyant pop singer Cee Lo Green vented his frustration via Twitter last week after a Minneapolis, Minn. music writer penned a lackluster review of his latest local concert.
E! reports that Green, who played in Minneapolis on June 16, resorted to Twitter after the writer in question, Andrea Swensson, dubbed his performance “gross” in her review. Green challenged her to “be fair,” and added:
“People enjoyed last night! I’m guessing you’re gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well F—k you!”
Soon thereafter, Cee Lo Green issued a vague apology for his mini-tirade, tweeting “Apologies gay community” while simultaneously asking “what was homophobic” about his earlier comments.
The singer’s Twitter activity remained erratic thereafter, with the above-quoted tweet coming down only to be replaced by a statement explaining the original statements regarding Swensson.
“I was being a little outspoken that night, a little outrageous,” Green tweeted, adding that he always expects his audiences, followers and critics alike to assume his comments to be in-character and good humored.
Cee Lo also distinguished himself as a very liberal and open-minded artist with no homophobic or negative feelings toward the gay community and a good working relationship with a number of LGBT individuals.
Swensson, who eventually added her response into the Twitter mix, noted that she was not offended by Green’s initial comments.
What an asshole. Maybe someone should call him a “nigger” and assume he’ll let it go since it’s “all in good fun”. Asshole.
People probably call him a nigger all the time. He has probably learned to, i don’t know – DEAL WITH IT
