UC San Diego School of Medicine’s Lead the Way campaign, the world’s first comprehensive “test and treat” model of HIV prevention, has launched a mobile testing campaign in the 92103 and 92104 zip codes. Trained HIV testers from UCSD’s Antiviral Research Center are visiting residential locations in randomly-selected areas throughout the two zip codes to offer free rapid HIV tests that will provide results in minutes.

Through the end of the year, the mobile testing team will visit thousands of homes to offer residents the opportunity to take a free and confidential finger-prick HIV test in their home or in a mobile testing van. Those that do not wish to participate in the finger-prick test will have the option of completing a brief survey. “We hope that San Diegans understand that this is an important opportunity to support the overall health of their community by participating in this project,” said Susan Little, MD, professor of medicine in UCSD’s Division of Infectious Diseases and head researcher of Lead the Way.

In addition, the Lead the Way campaign operates a testing center located at 3830 Park Blvd., inside the Egyptian building, on the corner of University and Park in Hillcrest. The center offers free 10-minute HIV testing from noon to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Appointments can be made by calling 619-543-9340 or visiting leadthewaysd.com/stop-by.
