On Saturday, June 11, Lady Gaga performed at the ancient and legendary Circus Maximus in Rome as a guest contributor to the 2011 EuroPride festival.
Entertainment Weekly reports that, in a rare out-of-character moment, the Italian-American pop icon and staunch LGBT equality advocate called herself by her birth name – Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – while addressing a crowd of thousands who turned out to see her play at the pan-European Pride event.
Gaga gave a lengthy speech before launching into acoustic renditions of “Born This Way” and “The Edge of Glory,” connecting with her audience and reminding them that she considers her involvement in “the joyous mobilization of the LGBT community” to be her “greater mission” in life.
Lady Gaga’s appearance in Rome was the result of an invitation from organizers of the EuroPride event.
