The highest-grossing and most accessible Coen Brothers movie is a remake of the classic John Wayne Western, and if you somehow missed it when it was in the theaters this winter, you must see it now. It is a perfect film, from Jeff Bridge’s crotchety Rooster Cogburn to Hailee Steinfeld’s stern and precocious Mattie Ross, from the epic cinematography to the Coens’ taught, and brilliant direction. Funny, moving, thrilling.
