ESPN reporter Jared Max comes out on the air

Jared Max, long-time sports radio reporter for WCBS and ESPN-1050, came out on air last week during the conclusion to his morning show program.

As he wrapped up the program, Max, 37, noted recent announcements from former college basketball start Will Sheridan and Phoenix Suns executive Rick Welts concerning their homosexuality before going on to ask listeners if they were prepared to get their sports reporting from a gay individual as well.

“For the last 16 years I’ve been living a free life among all my close friends and family,” Max explained; “But I’ve been living behind what is a gargantuan size secret in the sports world.”

Max went on to say that he came out to his family at the age of 21, but concealed his homosexuality professionally due to fears that it would impact his dream of working as a sportscaster.

Sources for the New York Daily News noted that producers at ESPN are giving Jared Max their full support in the wake of his announcement.
